The role of the Director of Sustainability Initiatives will be to address student concerns on issues relating to the sustainable operations of the Northeastern community. To that end, the Director of Sustainability Initiatives will be responsible for the following:

In working with the Vice President for Student Services, the Director of Sustainability Initiatives will have the responsibility to:

  • Sit on the Student Services Committee;
  • Sit on the University Executive Sustainability Committee and deliver pertinent updates to the Vice President for Student Services and the Student Services Committee;
  • Maintain routine communication with student members of the other University sustainability committees, including, but not limited to, the:
    • Finance and Administration Sustainability Subcommittee
    • Sustainability in Academics Subcommittee
  • Oversee initiatives with a focus on sustainability;
  • Propose new projects for consideration by the Association;
  • Work with the appropriate parties to assess service-level impacts as a result of potential sustainability initiative;
  • Provide pertinent information to the Director of Public Relations in order to communicate information on new projects, improvements, and current practices that encourage a more sustainably-conscious and responsible university;
  • Maintain an open line of communication with student groups that have a focus on sustainable practices; and
  • Research similar institutions’ sustainable operational practices.

In working with other areas of the Association, the Director of Sustainability Initiatives will have the responsibility to:

  • Identify opportunities to introduce sustainable practices into Association projects and initiatives; and
  • Work with applicable parties to develop, promote and implement sustainable practices internally, including the Association’s office and spending practices.

The Director of Sustainability Initiatives will serve a term that ends at the conclusion of Summer I, and can be removed if he or she fails to perform the duties of the Director of Sustainability Initiatives. Should he or she be removed prior to the end of the term, applications will re-open and another Senator may be appointed.

Quick Fixes

A Student alerted Amanda Sabia, VP of Academic Affairs, that a 3-hole punch in the library was misaligned.  Amanda told her contact at the library and the 3-hole punch was adjusted later that day.
