Being a Northeastern student means much more than going to class, co-op and maybe the dining hall. My goal regarding connection is about getting students involved across campus and across the city. Both Boston and Northeastern have countless opportunities and I plan to bring them closer than ever to the students.
Awareness of Events A major concern regarding connection is the lack of awareness of programming on campus. The problem can only be solved through a network of interconnected resources. One solution is a functional, centralized calendar for all Northeastern events on and off campus. By connecting this calendar to myNEU, an e-newsletter, and plasma screens around campus, we can be sure that you are aware of the campus happenings.
Under 21 in Boston Many events in the City of Boston are exclusive to individuals that are over 21. This has been a fairly recent change and members of the City Council have stated that they are willing to work with us to make changes. By working with venues, other colleges, and the city, we're looking to make Boston more accessible to our younger students.
Over 21 on Campus On the other side of my previous point, Northeastern has one of the largest over-21 populations of any school in the country. Students of age are currently encouraged to go off-campus to attend an event where alcohol is served. We are exploring additional options where students can responsibly enjoy alcohol on campus. Two venues we are considering are Matthews Arena for hockey games and shows in afterHOURS.
