"The purpose of the Direct Elections Manual shall be to enumerate the processes, rules, and procedures for the directly elected offices of the Student Government Association of Northeastern University. All candidates for direct election, as prescribed in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Student Government Association, must adhere to this manual." - Direct Elections Manual
History
Direct Presidential Elections are the result of a charge by former Student Government Association President William Durkin to the Senate Nominations and Elections Committee ("SNEC"). The committee was to develop plans for the President of the Student Government Association to be directly elected by the undergraduate student body in the Spring of 2007. As a result of SNEC, the first Rules Committee was formed to oversee Direct Elections and maintain the Direct Elections Manual. In the spring of 2007, the Northeastern University undergraduate student body took part in the first direct election of the President of the Student Government Association. After the second year of elections, the Senate felt that the Rules committee was too broad, and should be refocused to manage only the Direct Elections and other elections procedures for the Association. Thus, the committee was reformed once again to the Senate Nominations and Elections Committee.
